Doxa, Chronograph, Impermeable, Shock Resist, Anti-Magnetic.  Made in the 1940s. Fine, water resistant, anti-magnetic, stainless steel “Staybrite wristwatch with round button chronograph, register, tachometer and telemeter.

Case: Two-body, polished, inclined bezel, lapidated lugs, screwed down case back. 

Dial: Black with luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary dials for the seconds and the 30 minute register, inner concentric tachometer scale, outer 1/5th/second/minute track, outermost telemeter scale. Luminous gilt baton hands. 

Movement: Calibre 14, 5 (valjoux 22), rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement.

Diameter: 38.5 mm  and  Thickness 12 mm.

Doxa (Glory in ancient Greek), was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun. The watch company was mostly  a maker of dress watches for the export market. During the Second World War, Doxa redirected its production towards Chronographs and continue to sell this much demanded complication into the 1950's.

In the late 1960s Doxa decided to devote resources to create a watch to be used for diving. A staff of engineers and professional divers was assembled to create a watch with the required features fitted with an Orange dial. The Sub300t was purchased in quantity by U.S. Divers, who resold the watch in the United States. The company was one of the victim of the quartz crisis and ceased operation in 1980. The company was revived in 2002.

The above watch is an oversized jumbo 38mm screw down caseback with wire lugs and fitted with a beautifully finished Valjoux 22 movement. The watch has a untouched black gilt dial with radium numerals.  A rare watch in excellent condition.
